Active adults are opting to downsize and move from their homes to 55+ communities. Read about some of the most common reasons for making the move. Perhaps an active adult community is just what you are looking for, too.

Active adult communities are becoming more and more popular as the demand for lock-and-leave living continues to rise. Older adults are opting to move into these 55+ communities for a variety of reasons and highlighted below are some of the most popular motivations.
Downsizing
Once kids are grown
and out of the house, many older adults are finding that they no longer need
all the space that their house provides. In fact, continuing to own a home only
results in maintenance, repairs, and upkeep that folks no longer want to deal
with. Just because you downsize doesn’t mean that you give everything up. At
Avidor, endless programs, activities, clubs, and social circles exist. There is
always something to do. You just no longer have the hassle of regular homeowner
responsibilities.
55+ active adult communities like Avidor provide the lock-and-leave lifestyle that gives residents the freedom to live active and engaged lives. All upkeep is handled by the community, and the peace of mind that comes with that is invaluable. Everything is taken care of. Residents are free to create the life they want to live. Travel, enjoy a staycation, entertain friends—the possibilities are endless.
“I had a 3-level townhouse and I had been ill, so I needed one-floor living,” says Sheila Ryan, a resident at Avidor Glenview, which opened its doors in January 2020. “There is so much to do around here. I’m busy all the time. I just love it!”
Rollie King, a resident at Avidor Minnetonka is thankful for the ample amenities available under one roof. “Avidor Minnetonka is a wonderful place for active, healthy people like me. There is something to do here every day, and it feels like resort living but you’re not on vacation. You’re home.”
Moving
Closer to Family
As years go on, it’s
common to find that seniors want to move closer to their adult children. Family
is important and selecting a worry-free community that offers an active
lifestyle as well as a sense of security is the best option. Adult children can
have the peace of mind knowing that their parents are not only located closer
but are well taken care of with everything under one roof. That’s the best
part.
For those family get-togethers, Avidor provides plenty of space. From private dining rooms to theaters and ample outdoor amenities such as pools and grilling stations, the opportunities are endless for family celebrations.
Socializing
and Making New Friends
Living alone and
wanting to meet new friends and grow your social circle? Active adult
communities offer the perfect environment since all residents share common ages
and stages of life.
Rollie notes that she’s made new friendships since moving in and enjoys seeing her new neighbors daily. “I love living here. It’s great to be able to start up a conversation with a neighbor I recognize every day, and everyone who works here is so nice.”
Resident interest groups are available and social gatherings are a common occurrence—a grilling party out by the pool, a wine down Wednesday happy hour, or a crafting circle provide an opportunity for everyone to find something they like. And, if a certain group doesn’t exist, most residents start new ones themselves.
Sheila says there’s always a class or activity to participate in. “I really enjoy the weekly current events discussion group, and the community happy hour. I believe I’ve made it to all but one of the happy hours since moving here. It’s a great way to meet people,” she says.
So, what’s your move? No matter what your reason is, Avidor provides great options for living that active adult lifestyle of freedom.
